For EXPO 2017, a fresh lighting concept for the circular pavilions encircling the glass sphere: two continuous ribbons of LED tubes trace the full perimeter of each façade, echoing the expo’s theme, “Future Energy”, and stitching the site together with a halo of light.
Two ribbons of light at −45 °C
High-efficiency LED tubes on aluminium panels, installed at −45 °C: frozen tools, brittle cabling and little daylight, against an unforgiving schedule. Every segment was glowing on opening day.

Lighting the sphere zone
A concept in six layers for the zone around the sphere: ground light dots along the paths, flexible LED lines on the structural lines of the pavilions, washed façades, light at the nodes of the metal web, four sky tracers on top of the sphere pointing from the city to the Expo, and creative light following the sphere’s own lines.
